Thank you for taking the time to read our invitation. We're excited about the potential to work with you on creating a lesson for a TED-Ed video.
Why are we writing you? The process for choosing educators to give input on a TED-Ed Lesson always begins with a nomination. We have been thrilled by the overwhelming response to the TED-Ed initiative - many nominations come in each week recommending an incredibly diverse group of educators and topics. Upon reviewing the nominations, we found yours to be particularly outstanding. If you didn't fill out the nomination form yourself, someone who has experienced your ability to educate believed you would be a good candidate, and gave us your contact information. If you are interested in exploring with us, we would love to discuss the general process and next steps.
What is TED-Ed? TED-Ed aims to facilitate collaborations with great educators and animators around the world to create “Lessons worth sharing.” Over the past five years we’ve produced over 800 videos, and they have been viewed by learners over 1 billion times.
TED-Ed lessons are designed to both support teachers and students, and appeal to curious learners of all of ages.. TED-Ed videos feature ideas shared by educators and experts, enhanced by the talents of professional voice actors and musicians, and the visualizations of professional animators. All TED-Ed videos focus on provoking curiosity and lending clarity to a specific topic that is (or perhaps should be!) taught in schools.
Here's the general process: If you are interested in participating, you will begin by getting on a call with one of our producers to brainstorm the topic and agree on a direction for it. After that call we may ask you to write a first draft of a script (around 650-800 words). We’ll then collaborate with our script editors and you to optimize the script for animation.
We would love to be able to promise that we will develop every lesson into a TED-Ed animated short. However, we have to take your lesson into consideration with respect to all potential content.
If we decide to move forward with your lesson, and an animator selects it for production, we'll utilize the talent of local voice actors to narrate the script. Again, we can’t guarantee that we’ll animate every lesson. However, we will work with you to ensure that your TED-Ed Lesson has the best chance of being selected by the production team.
If your work is published: You will be recognized for your work on the video on the TED-Ed website and the TED-Ed YouTube channel. You will also gain exposure to TED’s millions of subscribers, many of whom are teachers and students.
Next Steps: After you have had the chance to review this invitation, click here to schedule yourself a time to speak with the TED-Ed team. We couldn't be more excited about the prospect of working with you.
